- Beschreibung
- Diazoxide is a benzothiadiazine derivative which functions as a selective ATP-dependent K+ channel activator and calcium channel blocker. As a result membrane permeability increases the flow of K+ across the membrane, which turns off voltage gated calcium channels. This inhibition in action potential causes a relaxation in smooth muscle. Studies suggest that Diazoxide acts as a peripheral vasodilator. In addition, Diazoxide is used in diabetic studies to increase glucose concentrations in plasma, inhibit the secretion of insulin by β cells of the pancreas, increase the release of catecholamines, and hepatic output of glucose.
